Paul Benson listing agent in a $32.5 Million Utah Real Estate Record

11/14/2019

BY KATHERINE CLARKE  |

Trevor Milton purchased the 2,670-acre Riverbend Ranch, which includes a 16,800-square-foot mansion along the Weber River

Trevor Milton, chief executive of Nikola Motor, a rival of electric car concern Tesla that makes hydrogen-electric trucks, has paid $32.5 million for a ranch in Utah. The deal sets a new price record for the state, according to the listing agent.

"I feel like my generation is asset light, wants smaller everything and is moving to cities, which is the opposite of what I wanted in life," said Mr. Milton, 37, in an email. "I enjoy the country, space, privacy and wildlife rather than skylights.... I wanted to create a sanctuary where I could live off the land."

Mr. Milton added that he plans to raise organic beef, vertically farm organic produce and provide a habitat for wildlife. "I plan on picking up multiple other properties like this one in order to preserve Utah and offer a sanctuary for my family, friends, and others to enjoy," he said. Mr. Milton’s company is valued at $3 billion following a funding round a few months ago, according to his firm’s website.

Known as Riverbend Ranch, the 2,670-acre property is in Oakley, Utah, about a 25-minute drive from Park City. The property includes a 16,800-square-foot, eight-bedroom home built along the contours of the Weber River.

The house has floor-to-ceiling walnut bookcases, hand-planed hickory flooring and custom ironwork, mostly created on an Amish farm. The wooden floors were reclaimed from an Idaho schoolhouse. The home also has its own helicopter pad, according to the listing.

The seller, former Quest Software Chief Executive Vinny Smith, also confirmed the transaction. He put a large piece of the property on the market for $30 million in September 2017, The Wall Street Journal reported at the time, and later added several parcels. Mr. Smith now heads Toba Capital, a San Francisco and Newport Beach-based venture-capital firm.

Mr. Smith bought the house plus several additional parcels in 2012, spending an estimated $30 million, he told The Wall Street Journal when he was putting it on the market.

Paul Benson of Engel & Völkers had the listing. He said the market in Utah has been strong so far this year in terms of large residential transactions, spurred in part by demand from buyers from California and New York. Jimmy Rex of Keller Williams represented the buyer.

Historic Sonoma Bed & Breakfast sold in 1 day!

10/21/2019

California 15 October 2019

Engel & Völkers announces the sale of the historic Sonoma Chalet bed & breakfast. Listing agents Tom Wurst and Nada Rothbart secured a buyer for the rare property on the first day it was listed on the market for $2,900,000.

Engel & Völkers brokers the sale of Sonoma’s oldest bed and breakfast Sonoma

This unique property steeped in Sonoma history was created by the founders of “Little Switzerland” in Sonoma, a popular old dance hall. The “Barn” on this property also was built and used for barn dancing, dating back to 1840. “When you walk in you can still feel the vibe,” says listing agent Tom Wurst.” The parlor in the main house showcases hand-painted alpine scenes on all four walls, painted by one of the original owners in the 1800s.

Today the Swiss-style farmhouse and several cottages is permitted with The County of Sonoma as a seven-room Bed and Breakfast. It is comprised of the Barn, which is a large turn-of-the- century farm house with four guest rooms, and three private, individual cottages spread among the inn’s gently sloping hillside.

The new owners will be continuing to operate the property as a bed and breakfast. “Quote from the new owners goes here”.

This is one of the few accommodations in Sonoma that is truly secluded, while only one mile from the historic Sonoma Plaza. To the east of the property is the Montini Farm, another historical property, that now offers a spectacular public hiking trail that climbs up the hill and connects to the Sonoma Overlook Trail. Cows graze on the Montini Farm and can walk right up to your hot tub as you relax and enjoy a relaxing soak. “Along with a bottle of wine, this might be Sonoma style tranquility at its finest,” says listing agent Nada Rothbart.

In a prime, secluded location in the historic city of Sonoma, Engel & Völkers brokered the Sonoma Chalet Bed and Breakfast for a sales price of 2.9 million dollars.

Sonoma County: Wine region of the year by Wine Enthusiast

10/14/2019

Sonoma County has been named 2019 Wine Region of the Year by Wine Enthusiast, for the magazine’s 20th annual Wine Star Awards. Each year, editors of the publication honor the destination, individuals and companies that have made outstanding achievements in the wine and beverage world, and continue to implement innovative, welcoming and sustainable practices and initiatives.

“Sonoma County is one of the most diverse and progressive winegrowing regions in the world,” said Adam Strum, Chairman and Publisher of Wine Enthusiast. “From powerhouse varieties like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that produce famed bottlings of prominence to classic California wines made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel and more, Sonoma County is renowned for producing highquality wines of distinction. The region is also a standard-bearer for best practices beyond just wine production, as a champion of true sustainability.”

The accolade recognizes the region for the prominent wine-focused programs that Sonoma County Vintners produces to enhance the wine industry. These include the Sonoma County Wine Auction, one of the nation’s top charitable wine auctions. This annual event has raised more than $30 million since its inception to support those in need in Sonoma County. Taste of Sonoma, the annual premier wine and food festival, spotlights Sonoma County’s renowned vintners and chefs.

“This is an incredible recognition of the world-class wines and winegrowers that have made Sonoma County exceptional,” said Michael Haney, Executive Director of Sonoma County Vintners. “Generations of families in this wine community have devoted their time, effort and care making this the best wine region. There is a real sense of pride in everything this community does from winery hospitality to their contributions of those in need. Sonoma County truly is authentic and approachable!”

“Sonoma County is a truly special place with its multi-generational family grape growers and vintners who are committed to sustainability, supporting our local community and preserving agriculture for the next generation,” said Karissa Kruse, President of Sonoma County Winegrowers. “It means so much to our local wine community to receive this incredible honor from Wine Enthusiast recognizing that in Sonoma County world-class quality wines can come from local families who care.”

Sonoma County’s winegrowing community recently announced that it now has a record-breaking 99% of its local vineyard acreage certified sustainable and will continue to build on its sustainability leadership as an exclusive participant in the California Land Stewardship Institute’s Climate Adaptation Certification Program which is the first program of its kind available for agriculture.

Sonoma County Tourism, the region’s destination stewardship organization, has also implemented various programs to continue building the county’s sustainability efforts, most recently, partnered with Kind Traveler, the first socially conscious “give and get” hotel booking and education platform. To protect the destination’s resources – both natural and human – for residents and travelers for many generations to come, SCT has instituted a new Sonoma County travel kindly pledge.

“Helping to ensure the long-term health of Sonoma County’s extraordinary agricultural resources is of paramount importance and the reason we embraced destination stewardship,” said Claudia Vecchio, President/CEO, Sonoma County Tourism. “We celebrate our extraordinary wine community for leading the way toward sustainability and achieving this well-deserved recognition.”

Sonoma County will appear in the special Dec. 31 Wine Enthusiast “Best of Year” issue and will be presented their Wine Star Award trophies at the 20th anniversary black-tie awards dinner on Monday, Jan. 27, 2020, hosted in San Francisco, California, at the Palace of Fine Arts.

Paul Benson is adding a trio of Engel & Völkers shops to his impressive portfolio of 28 offices across California, Nevada and Utah. The German-founded luxury brand is opening three Northern California offices, giving it eight new shops and more than 80 agents in Northern California in this year alone.
